Note to Advisees

 [ Home ]

These are essential things for you to do throughout your college career at YCP:

  1. Make time to communicate with your advisor. You can do this in any number of ways from e mailing (bsmith@ycp.edu), to phoning (815-1263, just 1263 extension if on campus), to just saying hello when passing one another on campus.
  2. During the scheduling period and prior to that , if necessary, make an appointment during office hours to go over how things are progressing in your classes and discuss your intentions for the following semester and beyond.
  3. Keep a personal folder that contains your current and past schedules, drop-adds, change of schedule, transfer credit evaluations (if you have them) other items you have regarding your academic progress at York College. I will have access to much of this and more on line. Courses taken elsewhere require evaluation through the admissions office. If you disagree with that evaluation we can discuss your options.
  4. Things to do before coming to me for a scheduling session: Check my office hours  posted on my office door  LS235 with a sign up sheet also posted. Put your name in the time slot of your choice along with reasons for meeting. If you have conflicts with my office hours, email me with alternative times and I will get back to you with a return email.
  5. Things to bring to meeting: a scheduling brochure (make sure you have read the SCHEDULING PROCEDURES IN THE FRONT MATTER OF THE BROCHURE), a tentative course schedule, pencil, paper, a list of questions.

Scheduling Problems

  1. The schedule should be neat and printed in pencil.
  2. The course number and section must be exact; course title alone is insufficient.
  3. Alternative sections and/or course should be listed, especially for freshmen and sophomores in case classes are filled.
  4. A schedule with over 18 credits (unless the 19th credit is a PE credit, applied music or 4-credit lab science) and a GPA less than 3.0 needs to be approved by the Registrar.

I have heard from several of you this semester for various reasons. This is a wise and prudent thing to do when faced with problems, academic or otherwise. I am usually here from 7:30 am-5:00-5:30 pm and can be found in LS208, the microscope room LS216 ,or or my office (see above). Ask department secretary, Mrs. Walker, if you fail to find me in the locations mentioned.
