How to write your reports

Outline of a good lab write-up for your notebook

I. Introduction

This should be very short, a brief description of the purpose of the lab.

II. Procedure

Often this can be pasted directly into your notebook. Be sure to note any changes, or alterations of the general procedure. Again, this should be brief.

III. Data

I realize that this section could get a little messy, but labelling is very important. It can be a complete mess as long as things are appropriately labelled.

IV. Calculations This is another area which might get a little messy, but again the key is to label your answers, and indicate what variable you are calculating.

V. Conclusions This will ALWAYS include a discussion of error, a tabular presentation of results, and statistical analysis. This should be a concise summary of all your results with a brief written description of data and results.
