Gerontology
at York College of Pennsylvania
Where the Generations Come Together
The mission of the Gerontology Program at York College is to prepare students for careers in aging which support and improve the well-being of older adults. In order to improve the well-being of older adults, students are exposed to educational programs that address the psychological, social, physical and political needs of our elderly population. Students learn about opportunities and challenges facing an aging society and about how to respond with informed sensitivity.
Gerontology is one Concentration area available to students who major in Behavioral Science. This concentration allows you to specialize in Gerontology by taking five core Gerontology courses plus two related electives. Students with any major may choose Gerontology as a complimentary minor. The Gerontology minor requires taking three core Gerontology course plus three Gerontology electives.
With a Gerontology Concentration or Minor, students prepare for careers that may include advocacy, program planning/evaluation, research, direct service positions, education/training, management/administration, and marketing.
